Set for release on December 15, 2023 in the UK and US, the new WONKA movie is a prequel to Road Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Timothee Chalamet as the young chocolate maker. Starring alongside Chalamet are Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, Hugh Grant, and Keegan-Michael Key.
This prequel will tell the story of a young Willy Wonka and his many adventures prior to opening up the world’s most famous chocolate factory. Principal photography began in September 2021 in the United Kingdom, with several shots also taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Watford as well as Rivoli Ballroom in Brockley, London. Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy contributed original songs for the film, while the musical score was composed by Joby Talbot.

King is directing from a screenplay he wrote with ‘Paddington 2’ co-writer Simon Farnaby (with prior writers including Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson, and Steven Levenson).
