Harrison Ford may have gained worldwide fame for his starring roles as Han Solo in the original Star Wars epic space opera trilogy and the title character of the Indiana Jones film series, but it was a long road to success for the star. Starring roles were scarce in the mid-1960s, so Ford turned to carpentry to supplement his income. This would turn out to be the best career move he would ever make. In the late-1970s, the struggling actor still had not cracked the big time and was still working as a carpenter. While building a doorway in a studio one day Ford was spotted by Lucas who was casting for a new film. He asked Ford to come and read with the other potentials and, despite having other actors in mind like Nick Nolte, Kurt Russell and Christopher Walken, Lucas soon realised he had found his man, and the rest is history.
