For those who don't remember, the Sega Activator was "an octagonal game controller for the Sega Genesis that used infrared beams to interpret movements." Video after the jump.
The Activator is placed on the floor, and the player stands inside the octagon. But unfortunatly, it wasn't a success

This was one of the worsts ideas that Sega ever came up with... This was even worse than the PowerGlove for the NES... I was a video game collector and had one for a while... It worked ok but its just impossible to play. Oh, and the restrictions are true... If ANYTHING disturbs the beams, you´ll get some weird commands on screen... Not to mention that its impossible to play Street Fighter or any fighting game since you need to do a series of comands... Try doing a hadouken without "touching" the A and B butons since between each direction is a button (The order is Something like this: Right, A, Down, A again, left, C, up and B... Terrible).

I've been reading a lot of bad comments regarding the Sega Activator. I taught martial arts at the time and bought one because of the workout aspect which was particularly intense with a surgical tubing aparatus that attached to the ankles and hands (even more so with ankle and wrist weights.) It required coordination and good lighting. Once that was taken care of it worked fine. The only draw back was when your legs would get tire and drag across the panel, taking it apart. Unfortunately my eventually broke and if I ever get it repaired, I'll make a platform to recess it in. I loved it!!! Let the uncordinated people who weren't willing to do the proper set-up say what they will.

idk what anyone thinks. If sega did some research this thing could have been huge. fix some aspects and maybe release a second one and who knows, the activator could have made sega the company Nintendo is working for.
