First US PlayStation 3 Commercial: "The Wait"

Sony has just begun airing the first PlayStation 3 commercial for North America, called "The Wait". What are your thoughts? Clip after the jump.
Look, I don't want to hear any complaints about how this ad doesnt show any game footage. Or how it doesn't even show the PlayStation 3. Or that if you didn't know better, and somehow missed the final 3 seconds of footage, you'd have zero inclination this was PS3 related at all. Why? 'Cause I like it.

it's nice and lame at the same time, a 3 shaped cloud????? But still a good commercial somehow. Sony advertisement it is.

First US Sony PS3 commercial The Playstation 3 is just a month away from its launch and Sony has started generating the buzz by airing the first North American commercial "The Wait". The ad does not show any gameplay or the console but it still leaves an impact and pretty soon ...

Just like kayne001 said, its nice and lame at the same time... Too bad the "wait" is not over yet... With only 400,000 units at launch, there will be a lot of people still waiting for it... Besides, I will wait a lot longer cause I dont have 600 Bucks and a HDTV to go with a PS3...

Way too ominous, I thought the kid was running away from home, with that eerie music, and packing his backpack at 3:00 in the morning. Then when he went on the roof, I thought he was going to kill himself, then I just realized Sony is retarded, and this is some pathetic attempt at something.

Lame. Really really lame. I love marketing. "The wait is over" yea right... 90% of the people wanting a ps3 will have to "wait" or pay a 1500 bucks for one on ebay. Lame. I'm an xbox convert. Did i just say that?

400k units still more than 360 though, and 90% of people do not have to wait to get on ebay. Eventhough ebay is known for this it's still only a minimal percentage of the actual amount. Meaning 360000 units will not be sold on ebay.. Just wanted to add that. Still a lame commercial, id expect more from Sony at least.

The sun is not up at 3 in the morning anywhere in the US. It might come out that early in northern Canada but not during the winter when the release date is.

That had nothing to do with Sony, or the PLaystation. Like the other guy said, why are they on the roofs?

It's symbolism. They're all looking to the sky, so they're on the roof to get a better view and to create a stronger emotional response. It's like the coming of some heavenly, supernatural force. Just take two seconds to think about it and pay attention to all the details throughout. This commercial is only targeted at gamers who already know everything about the PS3. It's just a teaser to get them excited and keep the date fresh in their head. That's the only purpose it is intended to serve. They'll show game/system footage later when they start targeting broader markets. Very simple, common marketing tool. Take a class people.

If you watch the shadows moving over the varius rooftops the stylized 3 shows very clearly at 1:00-1:01 Very nicely done

Jeez people take "the wait" so litterly. They mean the wait for the next-gen console is over, not to get the thing. Mr. Wed -You dont need an HDTV for PS3, I dont have one, I got a 20" GX TV, and thats what I'm gonna use except when I take it home and play on my dads HDTV. And how can you not have 600$? Do you not have a job? "I'd expect more from sony" -If sony gives you it all at once, theres no hype left. So many commericals made no sence. Who remembers "ING"? For about 6 months after it was aired on the Super Bowl, nobody had any idea what it was. Commericals don't have to make sence. link Question...360s been out for months...What does THAT have to do with 360? Is there a waterballoon game I can play? Or are they telling me to get off my a** and stop playing games? Hmm? link You get the idea.

ad is good but the xbox 360 airport fighting commercial is terrific the sony should produce ads like that

what a crapy commercial, what the frick was that I mean how dumb, a 10 year old kid is gonna afford a PS3 give me a fricken break, what a bunch of crap. Ya and if he asks for it for Christmas this is wats gonna happen: Johnny: Hey mom you know what i want 4 christmas Mom: What? Johnny: A PS3 Mom: whats that Johnny: Its a 750$ video game system with HD video Mom: I have no clue what the frick HD is but Theres no way we are gonna buy a 750 dollar system u brat!
