what so they decided to drop a few photoshop layer effects.. ie/ bevel & slightly less of a drop shadow..
hmm, i wonder how many thousands the designer charged for this 'new' logo!
:)

...So they removed the 3d effect and went for a plain basic logo which was probably used as a basis for the 3d variety? hmm

Definitely better...say NO to default drop shadow settings in Photoshop!

The yellow 'o' is kinda weird on the edges. Otherwise, I like a new look.

Cool
Very nice looking redesign, I prefer it over the original.

I like the new look better, it has more of an "Web 2.0" feel.

Yeah, that's looking a LOT better. Still uses gradients, but at least it dropped that UGLY bevel. At least the gradients are tasteful. I like it.

googles logo is ugly and will always be ugly if they dont do a radical change.

It's a bad sign when a company redesigns their logo. And the old one is WaY better!

I don't like the new logo, it looks flat and boring to me. The old one felt like it had more substance.
Maybe they can make the new one blink. That always made web pages more attractive and readable.

A small step towards a more stylistic logo. Google is one example of what power means to a company: it can have an awful logo, but will still become something like a trademark because of it's power. If a client came to me to design their logo and my proposal was something like Google's (a 3D, shadowy thing sporting different colors for each letter), they'd laugh and go to another designer. Google, however, who probably got this logo designed by some programmer back in those days, managed to make it one of the most known globally. Not beacuse of it's design however.
Having said that, they don't need to make big changes to their logo, because it's already a powerful icon. I would expect them, to make more drastic changes in the future, but I think this will be after they become so much bigger (in the order of magnitude of the global government that rules the world) than they already are now.
(And please, don't start with the "web 2.0" feel...)

I always thought the logo had a little too much drop shadow and bevel/emboss. Certainly a step in the right direction:the direction of time.

all of you care way too much about such a minor change of a logo. that is all.

As a Yahoo Web Designer, I'd say this is definitely going in the right direction.
