The "Hammerhead" -- another Philo creation -- can eject a CD disc at high speed, literally causing it to break on impact. This Lego device consists of "two main parts, the head that throws discs, and the tail which feeds the head with compact discs." Two video clips and more pics after the jump.

@Dan, From the looks of it, the motor only produces enough power to load the machine. The "throw" is itself powered by elastics, similar to a slingshot or a crossbow. As the CD is loaded, you'll tension is applied to a little catapult. It's automatically released once the CD is fully forward.

Dr Kamiya: it doesn't look like elastics are doing the throwing as you suggest. It appears to me like there is one [rubber-edged] wheel spinning at high speed, and a freely revolving wheel opposite. The CD is spun and thrown in similar fashion to a motorized baseball launcher.

[...] With a name like Philo, this guy is not to be messed with.  Especially when he can shoot AOL CDs at you with incredible velocity.  No specific design instructions here, but plenty of pictures to get you started on your own.  It uses legos, so if you don’t like it you can always take it aprt and build a pirate ship … or something.  Check it out - the LEGO CD Thrower. [...]
