Lauren Rojas, a 12-year-old from Antioch, Calif., got the idea of sending Hello Kitty into space after seeing a television commercial where a balloon was launched into the sky. The entire video was captured by four GoPro cameras. Continue reading for a video and more information.

Lauren also documents the rocket's step-by-step movement, explaining the green and pink-dressed cat crossing between the Troposphere and Stratosphere, known as the Tropopause, with temperatures dipping down to -38F/-39C. At a dizzying altitude of 93,625ft, the balloon has expanded to 53 times its original size at lift off and abruptly bursts.
