How to: Make a Bump Key

So you've heard about Bump Keys, now find out how to make one. Video after the jump.
These are keys with all the cuts at or slightly below the deepest level for a key made by the manufacturer, and a small amount of material removed at the tip, and, where applicable, at the shoulder - the part of the key that prevents the key from entering the lock too deeply

I'm going to have to try and make one of these tomorrow.. Think the locksmith across the street will find it strange if I ask him to make me some?

These are burglar tools. Getting caught with burglar tools is the same crime as burglary. A bump key will open a cell door but, only to let you in.

sick! i wonder if it works with cars. my gf keeps locking herself out of her car.

yeah probably get a talking to from the police if you try to get a locksmith's assistance, but it looks relatively simple. and scary

HA! I did a quick search and you can actually BUY these keys. I bought them last week and have them in my hands right now. I tried making them but I kept screwing them up - check it http://www.bumpkey.us

I was just watching the Today show on NBC and they had a story about how YouTube was aiding criminals by hosting videos on how to defeat locks through lock picking. A similar theme of anti-YouTube lock picking started to show up in UK based news media outlets earlier this morning - All Headline News, Metro UK, Life Style Extra. But the Today show was just trying to jump on a story that was just starting to hit the UK and wanted to be the first in the US to catch the wave rather than report on why the lock industry fails to protect us.
