this chip works with the macpro

it does work with the mac pro yeh. the mac pro is just a Intel Xeon Core2 design and the Quad core CPU is just 2 Xeon Core2 cores on 1 dice so its not one core but 2 separated Cores on 1 CPU and than whit a Diffrent Interface so it can handel the 2nd cpu as wel. i thaught that "real" 4core is comeing somewhere in Februari or March. but for now the Clovertown X5300 will be my choise ;) for the next cpu :P 8CORES in total that will cut my 3D render times by a huge percentage. ;)

This is sweet! But i wonder what the CPU's do in this movie.. i assume it does the mad physics (nice tornado!).. but doest it render the graphics as well? I thought GPU's did all the geometry, shading and the lot? (eg: most of the eye-candy i see looks videocard work..) Not that i mind in the end.. its a stunnig video/demo.

oke this is how it works Agia is a Huge Floating point calculator what tha means it can calculate a point in world space like XYZ this can be used to calculate Parabolos like grafitie and stuff like that. now all CPU's right now already have a good FPU calculations now if you have more cores than you also have more FPU so you can use this. so Physics can than be handeld bij de CPU the FPU isnt loaded mutch on all the other proces that take place so most of the times this isnt even beeing heavly used but now this engine spilts the Physics to a diffrent CPU so it hase its own FPU. Now a CPU can only do 1 calculation at any given time this means that there is cue for the the other calculations that have to take place some of this like memory are used always. to load and unload ram. now if you split this up to a 2nd core than you can Stream load data on the fly. now we have 2 things that can run separatly and than there are the Logics the things like where is a object in a space and how does the object know how it can interact whit other things. this is the Logic of the engine this is the 3th part. than you have the part that translate the GPU Information to the CPU and from CPU to GPU this also takes up CPU clocks turns. meaning you now have 4 Specific task that could be distributed over the 4 cores. now this is just a realy abstract way of explaining cause if its so complicated. to split this all up. thing is what you also have to whit Multi Thread Proceses is that you have to sinc them all togheter this takes also take a bit performance but whit 4cores it all makes sence to Multi thread a game. whit No real time programes this isnt a real problem this lag that you get, but whit games its a bit diffrent. so whit the 4cores we will see more Games that use Multi CPU and Multi GPU. Also DX10 handels the Multi core way better. but yeh this will kill the Agia PPU ;) save 300euro that you would like to spend on the PPU and spend that on the Core2 Qaudro ;)

this game was in real time, its on windows and 360 only, i want to see how it will do on 360 with only 3 a semetrical cores not 3, im sure it will run fine. outstanding lighting effects

Anyone else notice that when the camera moves the water and everything else stops? This makes it millions of times easier to render, thats not very impressive honestly.

Geez. Lameo Just because the chip has 4 cores doesn't mean its good for gaming. Most games are still single core. Very few exceptions. Go look for a review on the Quad core chips in games, they just barely beat out an X6800 which is pretty pathetic cause an overclocked E6400 can match that. As much as I love AMD, I love the core 2 chips even more. Good is good, but 4 cores seems great for dcc, not games (yet). Now, if you had a game designed to utilize all 4 cores like this demo does thats cool. EXCEPT for the fact that almost all games out now are very GPU limited. So you can throw all the cores and clock speeds in the world at it is not going to preform much better since you are just moving the bottleneck somewhere else. For the initial price of kentsfield you are going to be much better off getting a fast G80 or R600 card. I am CERTAIN this demo was running some really expensive gpu hardware.

What about coupling a quad CPU with a quad sli/xfire GPU solution? Yes, it'll costs mega-multi $$$, but it would be sweeeeet! I want!

@Macaca: i have tested a Quad SLI and they are not faster than a Dual SLI right now. there is just to mutch overhead whit 4GPU's right now :( what we need are univied Shaders. so that Vertex and pixel shaders can run in every Unit. cause now we have separated Vertex en Pixel shaders. and if you have 16 vertex and 16 pixel shaders and the one of them pipes is getting pushed more lets say the Pixel pipeline than there will be Cue now is the Vertex pipeline could also take the pixels and visaversa. than that would mean that it would cue less. and so get a performance boost. your Cue will still be there but youl have shorter Cue.
