According to professor John Pendry, it may take only five years to develop an invisible fabric, in which "light waves would flow around an object hidden inside the metamaterial cloak". Video demonstration of a similar Japanese technology after the jump.
You could build a shed out of this material and drive a tank in there, or a motor car, or hold a party inside it, and once you close the door everything it contains would be completely invisible

I can't wait to see actual invisible fabric, the Japanese did a good job of producing the invisible-fabric illusion I do have to admit
2
That is ssooooo being projected onto the guys top! :p
3
Easily a cheap green-screen effect.
4
it's not invisible, it's transparent.
5
That video looks like its just light projected onto that guys jacket but in theory the light will just move around the object like water and continue along its way as if nothing was there. Pretty cool idea

I've seen this on a magazine once, it is a projection, an lcd projector is placed infront of him thats linked to a camera directly behind the person providing a realtime feedback of the image and displayed onto his cloak. the article was about the special fabric hes wearing made to filter the LCD projector image so it woudln't look like a lit up color display

well. that was a pretty sad video. but. ya i agree. without even reading the first persons comment i already was thinking excactly what he was saying. but w/e

Man, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this is a fake. 1 Projector - $1,000.00 1 Video Camera - $650.00 1 Rain Coat - $4.95 Trying to pass said rain coat off as an 'Invisibility Cloak' - priceless.

First off this is a DEMONSTRATION. Prof. Pendry says the technology is five years away. Please read and conprehend the post before making stupid judgements. And to the smart@ss under me, it would be much easier to fake the effect with video editing as opposed to buying a projector as you suggested. Please lets not be stupid. Think before you post.

srry for those guys who say its fake but i seen it at a tech show and its real..It only works with a certain material and its not a projection you have to look through a screen or some thing like that to see the image on the coat or any thing else corvered in the material

I dont get why innovation gets ridicule, yet when someone mentions 9-11 was not planned by osama and they think your crazy.

More similar Japanese technology video(5); http://www.turktekno.net/index.php/component/option,com_multidisplay/Itemid,151/limit,12/limitstart,24/ It s fake? I think no.

Tachi's cloak - a shiny raincoat that serves as a movie screen, showing imagery from a video camera positioned behind the wearer - is more gimmick than practical prototype. Nonetheless, from the right angle and under controlled circumstances, it does make a sort of ghost of the wearer. And, unlike traditional camouflage, it's most effective when either the wearer or the background is moving (but not both). You don't need a university lab to check it out: Stick a webcam on your back and hold your laptop in front of you, screen facing out. Your friends will see right through you. It's a great party trick.

maby you guys shouldnt act smart like u know something this is not fake it is very real i works but using many cams and screen i saw this in a time magazine

maby you guys shouldnt act smart like u know something this is not fake it is very real i works but using many cams and screen i saw this in a time magazine ps i 17 yo boy did this as a project for school
16
Well, if you notice it's not on his face so it can't be projected.
17
So fake. I saw the same thing at the Wired NextFest in San Francisco about 2 years ago. There is a camera behind the person and the camera taping him has a lens on it that puts the background projection on ly on the special material on the coat. It is cool but there is no way you could hide a tank.
18
Such a projected image.. If not, then why can you see the shadow on the creases on the coat? If it was invisibility coat, there would'nt contain any shadows

I think thos Asian Human Trash People should just go suck their own wieners!
