Fifth Gear's Tiff Needell and Jason Plato pit the Corvette C6 up against the Viper SRT-10. Which one comes out on top? Find out after the jump.
The new Z06...has a 7.0 L (7,008 cc/427.6 in³) version of the small block engine codenamed LS7. Officially certified output is 505 hp (376 kW). Its performance is similar to the Ford GT and the Dodge Viper SRT-10. Official performance figures indicate that the Z06 can reach 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds from a standing start in first gear

why those american muscle cars never can take a corner at a normal speed is still something i cant understand :S why is that Mercedes and Audi and most of the japanis car makers can make cars that have grip like a lunatic and those American cars will only Slip and slide :S are there no corners in the American road or something ?

I am sorry but that just makes me angry. Just because you can't drive that car doesn't mean that it is rubbish. Learn how to handle a little muscle before you hand down a verdict. I mean, christ, they act like the viper can't do a powerslide. I am sure it can, but that guy can't MAKE it do a powerslide.

its called 500+ hp to the rear wheels, these are muscle cars, the japanese dont make anything with anywhere near that amount aof power, and for the most part neither do the germans, not for near the same price anyways.
4
with that ignorance i can see why you don't understand. Keep those comments to yourself. You act like everyday we go to work and make pin-needle turns at 100kph.

After looking a little more closely it seems like those guys were exaggerating those turns anywayz. Maybe you should check out Top Gear doing it.

Moneywagon you maybe right about the price but your wrong on hps both japanese and german offers 500hp+ cars. Tommy Kaira ZZ II is a japanese that does 550hp since 2001, both mercedes AMG55 604hp and BMW M6 2006 500 hp. Sure they are all very expensive if you put amricanmuscle aside, but they are way much sophisticated. The thing is muscle cars are made rough like someone who would mod a lawnmower truck. Agerman or a japanese would think like; how could i make it efficient for driving, maybe less fuel dependent, reliable and of course powerful at the same time. American would think more; let's just put an astronomique rocket motor on that thing it'll be fun. And that's just how it feels too. Sad to say but it just fit how the whole world see america, full of muscles poor intellectual capacities... m 2 cents god bless america :P

no, americans are people who just want to go in a straight lines :D

To the top, baby!!! ha ha! Seriously though, I agree with you, Kayne. Put the STIG behind the wheel and then I'll be satisfied. That is what drives me nuts about all these fifth gear segments...none of the hosts look like they are very good drivers.

Is it just me, or was the audio a clear 3 seconds earlier than the video?

It would be nice for them to compare similar cars for a change. A more fair race would have been the Corvette C6 Z06 against the SRT-10. Putting a $70,000 car vs a $40,000 is just wrong. Now put a $70,000 vs another $70,000 automobile is more like it. I bet the Z06 would have edged out over the SRT-10 as it has much better handling and an equivlent engine. This race is like putting a regular 3 series BMW vs a M3 or an Audi A4 vs a RS4. This was a loaded race from the start. Just my $.02

[...] This post, from Corvette: Sales, News & Lifestyle really caught my eye: Those that read this blog regularly probably know that I don’t do too many comparisons - putting the Corvette next to X and seeing how it performs. That just stems from my bias. The Corvette stands on its own merits and doesn’t need comparisons to make it look better. So why this post about Fifth Gear’s Tiff Needell and Jason Plato putting a C6 Coupe against the Dodge Viper SRT-10? It’s not the compare and contrast that makes this video, its the fact that these guys get two great cars on a track and just have a blast with them. Burnouts and power slides galore! So sit down, shut up and hang on, because this is a fun ride! >>>> [...]
