A functional Iron Man suit that you can find at stores may still be years away, but the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) is developing TALOS (Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit), a lightweight smart suit using kevlar and nanotechnology that functions as a ‘practical exoskeleton’ to protect soldiers from shrapnel and bullets. It will also give soldiers super-human strength and protect them from intensive combat situations. Electronics wise, the suit monitors a soldier’s heart rate, hydration levels and core temperature and responds to that data via an on-board computer hooked up to sensors, to keep soldiers in the best conditions for battle possible. However, the coolest feature is that the armor can transform from a liquid form to solid in milliseconds under the influence of a magnetic field or electric current.
