The AutoBlogGreen crew was fortunate enough to be at the official Tesla Roadster unveiling and managed to snag some pictures/video. "Continue reading" for more.
Using a unique two-speed manual transmission, the Tesla Roadster's power comes from a 3-phase, 4-pole AC induction motor coupled with the Power Electronics Module (PEM) which provides multiple functionality of inverting direct current to 3-phase alternating current, the charging system, and the regenerative braking system

Pretty..... but, Umm.... Since electric motors have nearly 100% of thier torque right off the line... it would be retarded if you didn't have an electric car that WASN'T quick. A car that makes zero emmisions huh? If you figure it out, per mile it uses more oil to make the car's electricity then it does just to run an equally effiecent car on gasoline. So until we are set up with free energy, I'm not sold. Now that you mention it, it does look a lot like a elise body.

how much? i would love one. i want a sports car and a car w/ great gas mileage. even if it is electric. its an amazing car . . . i want one
6
man i want one how much?

80k- 100k something if anyone wonders

James: I thought the same thing (making electricity defeats the purpose of switching from gas in the first place), but I believe there was a plug-in group on the internet that has proved that this is not the case. I can't find their website at the moment, but I am sure that a couple querries on Google would turn it up. Even so, I would definitely want to see some real tests done with the car before I bought one. Oh, that and I would have to save up the 100k to buy one! Haha...

I think (in my personal opinion) that the coolest feature about a (fast) electric vehicle is that is is nearly silent when compared to a fossil-fuel powered vehicle. Exploding fuel = noise. All you would hear from this car is the wind rushing by you.... romantic...

man i love the load roaring of cars. if i got a electic car i would need a sub to play the car reving. what impress me about that car is it can go up to 130 mph with only two gears another thing that i would miss, changing gears.

WOW! I'M STUNNED! Netscape still exists?!!?

It was made by former Lotus engineers, not by the company Lotus. Like the guys said on the video, solar electricity generation.... how much oil does it take to convert solar power into electrical power? maybe a fraction of what a gas engine needs to run. (for making the plastic, etc) I think they go for $90 000 USD. A steal compared to what else is out there in the same class of car.
