Alright, so, I work at CompUSA. We sell ipods and zunes. Well, I should say that we sell ipods and have zunes... We've sold about 30 ipods for every 1 zune... Last time I checked, that was nowhere near 25%... And also, most windows mobile devices don't even have a hard-keyboard.

Most expensive phone in the market? Well yeah it's not cheap but my last two handsets cost more than $600 each. Why is this guy still in charge at Microsoft?

I have to agree....like said by a previous post there are many flaws with the iPhone.. Apple will try to take the market place with the iPhone and probably it will do very well, but I know I would prefer a keyboard on it!!! And for the comment that most WM5 phones don't have keyboards...your looking at smartphones not true pocket pc's. There is a huge difference

His reactions made no sence. Apple will do very well with this phone/Ipod and it will be neat to see more ideas from apple, at least they innovate! MS has stolen all but Gates original language. I think Apple Inc. would do well to release a non smart phone version as well because I wont buy this because it has more than what I need. How much is the service for this anyway? I only need the phone and Ipod functions, and the price is nowhere near too much. Good tech costs good money.

That was a nervous laugh!!!!!!

Well who cares what he thinks about the iPhone, obviously even if he thought it was amazing he's not going to promote his direct competition. It's pointless for him to even bother, no one will (or should) take what he says seriously.

this gentleman is very rude. I'm not apple customer but Microsoft just copy the apple's world...windows...zune..vista..etc.. I would like a time machine and ask him few years ago his mind about IPOD. I don't like this man at all... ciao from italy !
14
He says "It's not a business phone" but that isn't Apple's target market! He should know that.
15
I will pay 500€ for a phone once it has core 2 duo single core comparable 1ghz performance and decent memory capacity not some lausy 25 MB so you can really use the phone as a ultra mobile pc or what have you. Plug in keyboard to it and even full size display then Ill pay 500€ for a phone.
16
If it's "not a business phone", then who's it for? Certainly not the average consumer when it starts at $499.
17
Talk about a man thats scared shitless. It has no Keyboard?? Sorry to let you know but it has a touch screen, thus it has whatever it takes, which ever keyboard, in whatever language you need, chinese, japanese, english, or danish.. So maybe our dear mr Balmer should check his facts before opening his trap..

(Joe) Who shops at CompUSA?

He does look a bit on edge... but from viewing past Balmer interviews that seems to be his normal demeanor. The cell phone space is going to be exciting this year. I do subscribe to Balmer's point of view that this is not a business phone as it has to pass certain criteria for enterprise deployment: 1) individual unit price is high and volume investment for an average enterprise is going to be cost prohibitive. 2) connectivity to corporate class email (not yahoo imap). MS has a definite strong hold here... for example my email box is well over 10gb and I have instant access to it via my phone with activesync to our exchange server. I don't see MS willingly letting non-Windows Mobile devices sync to exchange via its protocols... I wouldn't as that will keep the enterprise users tied to the considerable infrastructure investments 3) I have to mention the battery, being non-removable this device doesn't seem like it will last for sales people (or similar) that are on the phone a big part of the day if not most of it 4) Security. Given that I can easily reset the admin password on a mac by booting for the system CD. The jury is still out on security vs. stupid-proofing for consumers... that for example forget their passwords. This is a major reason you will not see many if any (depending on industry) Mac deployments in a corporate environment. Although the phone looks great in theory... first of all you have to realize that 90% is simply repackaged and Apple-style remarketed technologies that already exist. So rather than a revolution, this device is more accurately "Evolutionary"... and we have yet to see what comes out between now and the iPhone launch. Balmer is definately right about the biggest downfall being the price. At that price point it will become an exotic toy and certainly not a business phone (which is what cell phone companies want to put marketing money behind because of the long-term earning on the much biggers service packages anyway). Example would be Verizon pushing the Q because they know most will tack on a $45 per month data plan to start...etc. One thing he is wrong on is it being the most expensive... checkout the B&O and the Vertu. At this point the iPhone is likely to fall into the same category, but maybe to a lesser extent. Vitaly

this guy is a moron. Remember when he walked out on stage and just yelled Technology technology technology about 40 times? Seriously, microsoft WAS the best, Apple's iPod showed the world how simple it can be and that got people interested in the Mac computers. Perfect timing for the sleek and excellent iMac that was released 2-3 years ago. Now they are coming out with phones......I could strangle my mom for not buying $1000 worht of stock when the current iMac was released........ Can anybody guess at how much that would be worth now? $1000 in Apple 3 years ago.

Steve Ballmer is funny

Steve Ballmer is a shifty, egocentric, dufus. I HATE MS mobile wondows on my Treo 700W (and so does everyone I work with). The phone freaking locks up if I'm on a call and a second one comes in. How moronic is that? MS is scared because A) almost everything that Apple does is better designed, and makes MS look like cave dwellers, and B) they are always waiting for the other shoe to drop vis a vi the DOJ. MS knows that they are operating on smoke and mirrors, that Linux and FOSS are rolling down the hill towards them, and they have become an unwieldy monstrosity that few people are excited about any more. Hello - a BROWN fugly Zune? Give me a break! Bah, let Ballmer tell himself these stories to help him sleep at night, truth is most people I have talked with hate windows mobile, and Apple is poised to eat their lunch. Oh, and by the way Steve, Sony had several PDA phones out that were more expensive than the iPhone will be. And I just replaed my crapolla 700W with a 700P!

there are already multiple copyright infringements on the iphone (if you can even call it that since they stole the name)- it is too expensive- I don't see it making any kind of a market splash at all- and to the person talking prices on vista vs. osX- c'mon osX came out a little after xp- they have upgraded the same architecture a few times, but it is like saying- hey I can get a 1st gen xbox for $150 why are they charging $600 for a ps3?
