(Video) Windows XP Running on PS3

That's right, a programmer has managed to get Windows XP running on a PlayStation 3 via Linux/QEMU. What are your thoughts? Video after the jump.

If this is what is being accomplished just 7 days after this console's release, I am interested to see what mods will be around at the one year mark for this console.

How well does it run? Does it run like how xbox ran windows? or is it highly emulated so it lags, and really has no conventional use?

its not exactly hard to do this you know, all you need is a peice if software similar to virtual pc, the are hundreds of peices of software like this.

you could list all the OSes that run in Qemu. OpenBSD FreeBSD plan9 inferno BeOS etc etc

So they got windoes xp running on a virtual machine. So what? Emulated operating systems are useless for any real world use.

Over 2 mins for the start menu to be ready. Emulated to the max - it isn't your $600 desktop replacement. But wait - wasn't the cell processor the processor to end all processors ;)

Wow amazing! This is trash, seriously if I needed Windows XP desperately had to wait that long for it to load up I'd go buy a new PC. The idea that Sony has for the PS3 replacing the PC has come from the unfortunate place we sometimes find them living in, "Cloud Cuckoo Land". I will get a PS3 but I'm not falling for the other rubbish they spread along with the notion of it being a darn good games machine.

How is this impressve? We know they got Linux to run on PS3, and all that running Linux entails -- including the ability to run some virtual PC software. In fact declaring it to be Windows XP Running on PS3 is kinda misleading, because that implies that it is XP running directly on the PS3, and not under Linux, which is what is being demonstrated here.

Maybe a fun thing to emulate an xbox 360 on the ps3... then make the xbox emulation, emulate windows, then make the windows emulation emulate commedore 64, and THEN let the commedore 64 play some paperboy... yeah,... that would be the next hot thing ;P

Impressive, no really... But since it needs almost 8minutes just to boot I think I'll keep Windows on my Intel, Moac OSX on my Macbook and use my PS3 just to play games :)
