(Video) World of Warcraft: Addiction or Lifestyle?

This documentary focuses on MMORPGs, or more specifically World of Warcraft, and how it affects the life of one teenager. Video after the jump. What are your thoughts?
From the "parents without nuts, literal or otherwise" department comes the harrowing Current Affairs report on a child lost to the dregs of addiction. His smack of choice? A "violent computer game" known as World of Warcraft"

I won't minimize the problems of this guy's family... but the fact is he isn't old enough to have a credit card. Just cancel the subscription. Not necessarily "problem solved" but a huge step in that direction. And about World of Warcraft being a "violent computer game." All the Trolls and Tauren at the guy's school better watch out!

You can buy pre-paid debit cards at most game shops that can be used to pay for online games.

Oh Australia.. finally getting into the 21st century eh? Welcome to the rest of the world. pretty funny to see this 'news' items today, after the seasons premier of South Park last night which was all about WoW - laughed my butt off

Mom is a child. Just like so many others who apparently don't know how to be responsible ... if the kid were playing with a gun, would she step in and take it away?

This guy has some Issues; but I think its not because of World of Warcraft. If I would play 12 hours a day, I would be ashamed of myself that I have such still such crappy gear; this guy is just an overall nerd. If he wouldn't play wow, he would probably smoke crack or something... These Loosers are the exeption to World of Warcraft.

No the mother is exactly right, the kid is addicted and hes way too young to be throwing his life away like this. And shame on all of you who are siding with the child, or saying hes this way because he's a loser, he isnt, the game is extremely extremely addictive. I wish you the best of luck with getting your son away from it, the best way I can try to help you(ive gone through all this myself, and am, thankfully, over it) is just cold turkye. Uninstall the game, stop paying the monthly charge for him to play, and don't let him play again. He'll throw tantrums about it im sure, but its whats best with him, and something I wish someone had done for me a lot sooner.

Whos to blame? Blizzard for making a good game that entertains lots of people for hours and hours or the stupid mom that has no authority over her own child and still pays for his WOW account and the internet? Its impressive how some parents like to blame everything else instead of looking at themselves... Is it so hard for someone to tell her to stop paying for his WOW subscription??? I mean, he doesnt study or work... If he wants to play games, he must deserve the free time... Besides, I would make him pay for the f¤cking hole in the wall he did after bitching over some freaking game...

Correlation does not equal causation, that posychologist on there is as dim-witted as the mother. The reason his personality has changed is probably because that woman whines to him so much when he just wants to play his game. It would sure as hell piss me off.

it's not a wise choice for his mom to just cancel off the Internet connection. THAT will leads to more and more problems (eg. he will be going to cyber cafe more oftenly, spending more and more money, ended up even worse) I won't be surprised too if he commits suicide right after his mom cancel off the Internet. It's the matter of his own will to cancel off the addiction. oh ya, forgot to say, i was once WoW addict. trust me, play this game as ONLY a game. take some time off, do some sports, socialize around the REAL world, or else, you'll go crazy 1 day. Imagine playing from 11am till 5am, probably just stop for 10 minutes for lunch, dinner, toilet. Slept and wake up and there goes another day of WoW!

For those parents out there who are willing to sue because they THINK or KNOW a "GAME" MADE their son or daugher kill themselves BS. Yes you can become very immersed in a game. now could someone kill themselves over it sure its stupid but sure. but its not the games fault. this is like the case in CA where the local gov. over there is suing auto makers for auto polution. this is the same case they have been trying ot say for years oo games make people bad movies make people kill. oo tv has bad influence. Bunch a BS if you ask me, if my son or daughter wants to get immersed in a game he or she will be allowed BUT of course not all day where he or she wont spend any other time awake but in front of the pc, maybe some days but not al the time. i was there once before i loved it but i grew out of it 6 months later

i know a lot of people who play over 6 hrs every day more on the weekends but all thos still have lives and the game dosnt change then a bit other than wasting there time the game dosnt stress then make thm violant or anything

"It's MY CHOICE to be addicted" "It's MY CHOICE to play" Most important fcking words said in the whole peice. Obviously if he is CHOOSING to play this much, he must be trying to escape from something. That's all this W.O.W is... an escape. Maybe he's stupid fat ugly bitch of a mother should focus on that, instead of the amount of computer games he plays. I guess it's easier to nag and comlain, rather than to think critically. Idiots are taking over the world. :(
