Stores in Japan have begun liquidating their XBox 360 inventory due to poor sales. According to this ad, the system costs only $170, with listed games priced at just $26 USD each. If only the consoles were region free for gaming...

i don't think microsoft will let anyone do this. it seems to be a sales price. take a look here...i think i agree with them.

During a sale of any kind, the original price or the savings would be advertised as it was in the ad. That is why you see sales with signs marking 15% off or 50% off and so on. How would they (stores) attract new (less-knowlegable) customers if they just printed "$170 xbox360 sold here". Also, once shipped to the stores.... those xbox 360s are out of Microsoft's hands... They cannot do anything about it. $170 for a 360... personally, i would not buy it even if it was cheaper than that.

PS3 all the way for me (and all you people out there who arent masturbating as you read this! yes, im talking to you!*)its better all together. People are drowned in all of the crap that Micros*ft has been feeding them. i can see why they called it the "box", they dont seem to be able to think outside the it do they.... "er... no we didnt steal the idea off sony...." Really the 360 is a remake of the first one, no wonder its doing so badly
*please dont take offence to this but *in my opinion* the kind of person who would willingly buy an Xb*x360 is the kind of person who randomly masturbates while reading text.

Eh, I will wait for the second edition of the 360 when they release the next generation media bay.

the xbox 360 is not a remake of the first one, you jsut have to give it some time before good games come out and stuff, i mean i could say that i acually thought the ps1 was better than the ps2 and that i saw no difference, b/c personally i did not.
and as for M$ feeding us crap, well what did sony do with their so called cgi in game movies at e3 last year.

I love my games. Microsoft loves their -- well, press and domination maybe? Fact of the matter is, there are NO killer apps for the 360 right now. Bad way to launch a system if you ask me. Meanwhile we have GREAT titles being flooded into the DS market (which is a shame, since handhelds ultimately detoriorate the gaming experience imo). PS3 (which I was rooting for) is looking to be almost at the level of vaporware. With the problems they are having with HDMI connectivity and blu-ray functionality, they are defintely treading on thin ice. Couple that with the fact that their PS2 systems were absolute garbage, using horribly proprietary hardware that was impossible to work with and you can bet that I will be holding off on system purchases for awhile. Emulation is my choice of the day. That is, until the Revolution comes out.

Oh, and the price thing seems a little odd. I will defintely try to check out some stores and see if this is legit. I can't imagine a store selling off a brand new system at this price. I see BBPack PS2s all the time at a staggering $250 which have definitely been taking up shelf space a hell of a lot longer than the XBox 360.

The 360 IS region free for gaming... the only issue could have, is if you're not using HD. Without the worldwide standards for HD resolutions, you will still have the old issue of PAL vs. NTSC formatting.
