Centennial Light Bulb

What you see above is the Centennial Light Bulb at Fire Station No. 6 in Livermore, California, a light bulb that has been continuously burning since 1901. Despite not knowing the exact date it was turned on, its birthday is usually celebrated on June 18. Aside from the few power outages these last 113 years, the unbreakable light-bulb has only had two blackouts: one in 1976, when it was moved to another firestation, and a second in 2013, when the bulb was off for 9-hours. When the bulb was moved, almost 40 years ago, people wanted to be sure it didn’t break, so they severed the cord, instead of unscrewing it, and transferred it with a full police and fire truck escort.
