YOLO is an acronym for “you only live once”. Similar to carpe diem or memento mori, it implies that one should enjoy life, even if that entails taking risks. The phrase was first used in music by The Strokes in the form of their song “You Only Live Once” which was released on their album First Impressions of Earth on January 3, 2006.
