Unbeatable AI Bot Trackmania Racing Game
Playing against computer-controlled vehicles in a racing game is one thing, gamer Yosh spent 3-years programming an AI bot for TrackMania that simply can’t be beat. Reinforcement learning was used and after a while, it realized that crashing into walls wasn’t the smart thing to do.

After some tweaks in the code, Yosh was able to get the bot to stop hitting walls and surpass his personal best time. It performed so well that he even taught it to drift later on by offering rewards. If you’re unfamiliar with TrackMania, players are given the ability to create their own tracks using a “building block” process, similar to the 1984 game Excitebike game. The races typically have a time trial format, with medals awarded for beating set times in single-player mode, and players may choose to respawn (retire) at any time.
