Rise of the Planet of the Apes, slated for release on August 5th, 2011, makes “liberal use of CGI technology to create what looks to be the most realistic depiction yet of a humanised ape.” All of the CGI effects were done by WETA Digital of Avatar fame. Click here for more pictures.

By using motion-capture technology – which records and analyses information from markers stuck onto the actor’s body, and infrared lights which illuminate him – the special effects team is able to track motion and force.
