Bose SoundLink Flex 2 Bluetooth Speaker
Bluetooth speakers in the $100 to $200 range often promise big performance from small packages. Many deliver on volume or bass at first listen, only to reveal thin sound, weak build quality, or quick battery drain once real life enters the picture. The Bose SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen, priced at $99.99 (was $159), stands apart by focusing on the things that actually matter day after day.

Bose adopted the original Flex design and improved it by tweaking the key components. We’re talking about an 8-inch speaker that weighs less than 1.3 pounds. Its sturdy construction has a silicone coating wrapped around steel grills. At the business end, there’s a durable nylon loop that allows you to clip it to your backpack, beach chair, or bike handle, and the entire thing feels substantial in your palm, ready to go. One look at the specifications reveals that it is also built to last; the IP67 classification indicates that it can tolerate dust and being submerged in water to a depth of one metre. So you can dump it in a pool or take it to the beach and expect it to keep on going. Even independent tests have proven that it can withstand a few tumbles on a hard surface without being scratched.

As for the sound, that’s why many owners believe the pricing is reasonable. A single 54-millimeter driver coupled with passive radiators produces a very even sound that works across a wide range of genres. Vocals are clear whether you’re listening to a podcast, audiobook, or your favorite song. The bass is deeper than you’d think for a speaker this little, but it’s not boomy or loose, and the treble is smooth and snappy without becoming harsh, even at higher settings.

You also get PositionIQ technology, which intelligently adjusts the sound settings based on whether the device is sitting upright or on its side. The Bose app also allows you to adjust the EQ to your preferences, whether you want to raise the bass for a party or bring down the treble for spoken word. There is a new button on top that allows you to launch your chosen voice assistant or Spotify with a single click. You can also hook up two Flex 2 devices for stereo separation or party mode.

Battery life is also impressive, with 10 to 11 hours of real-world use at moderate volumes, which is quite near to the stated 12 hours. Charging takes approximately 4 hours over USB-C. It’s worth mentioning that some other portable speakers last a little longer, but we believe the consistent sound quality and durability make the battery life feel enough for the majority of users.
