The scene took place on Lake St Moritz’s frozen surface, where three Bugatti Bolides created their own paths through the snow and ice as they crossed. I.C.E. St Moritz is an annual event that allows you to see some of the most exclusive automobiles in the world. Every year, tens of thousands of people go to the Swiss Alps for two days of spectacular show, which combines static displays and high-speed racing on the frozen circuit in front of them.
Bugatti arrived at this winter wonderland with their latest hypercar in tow. Each Bolide hypercar is equipped with an 8-litre quad-turbo W16 engine producing an impressive 1578 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and a fast 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. These are track-day only cars that aren’t meant for the road, but they can generate a ton of downforce at high speeds, and with a carbon fiber body weighing in at 3197 pounds, they’re not exactly lightweight. Of course, downforce does not operate on ice. However, that did not prevent these cars from sliding and drifting effortlessly over the white stuff with their drivers at the helm.

The owners were making the most of them, treating them like the high-performance machines they were intended to be. That entailed adjusting the power to account for the lake’s slick surface, rather than using a dry circuit. It wasn’t simple, but the drivers handled the job with apparent ease. It’s also worth noting that this is a really unique occurrence, given there are only 40 Bolides in the world, each valued more than $12 million – plus all the extras, of course.
Bugatti presented this show as a sort of celebration of their W16 era. Along with the Bolides, Bugatti unveiled three Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse models from its Les Légendes collection: Soleil de Nuit, Rembrandt Bugatti, and Meo Costantini, and placed them on the ice with skaters gliding amongst them to create something truly unique.
