Google Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 Laptop
Google’s Chromebook crew has always been the plucky underdog of laptops—cheap, cloud-driven, and proudly basic. But with the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 unveiled today, Google’s changing that. From its MediaTek Kompanio Ultra processor to its OLED screen and exclusive Gemini AI tools, this Chromebook is stirring up a storm.

Lenovo’s Chromebook Plus 14 is a sharp, aluminum-wrapped laptop that feels more like a premium ultrabook than your average Chromebook. At just 1.17 kg and a hair over 1.5 cm thick, it’s light enough to tote all day, sporting a clean, MacBook-esque vibe. The 14-inch OLED display, with an optional touchscreen, rocks a 1920×1200 resolution and DCI-P3 color range, serving up vivid visuals for Netflix marathons or photo tweaks. “The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 is a new powerful Chromebook,” Google’s blog boasts, and the specs prove it.

  • SLIM. LIGHTWEIGHT. READY TO GO: The all-new slim design is perfect for busy lives on the go.
  • SKILLFULLY DESIGNED. MILITARY TOUGH: Built with premium craftsmanship to withstand the occasional drop or ding.
  • ALL-DAY, ALL-IN-ONE CHARGING: Power through your school day – and beyond – with a long-lasting 12-hour battery.¹

Driving this rig is the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910, an 8-core ARM chip with a neural processing unit (NPU) pumping out 50 TOPS (trillions of operations per second). A Chromebook first, it swaps out the usual Intel or AMD fare. The Kompanio Ultra’s efficiency enables a fanless setup, keeping things quiet even under strain. Lenovo promises up to 17 hours of battery life, a claim that, if true, could top its class. Paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, it’s primed for multitasking and heavy lifting. Plus, it boasts Dolby Atmos support—a Chromebook debut—along with Wi-Fi 7, dual USB-C ports, and the ability to run two 4K external screens.

Google’s Gemini AI integration is where the Chromebook Plus 14 flexes hardest. It packs a year-long Google AI Pro plan, worth $240, with 2TB of cloud space and access to gems like Gemini 2.5 Pro, NotebookLM, and Veo 3 for AI video creation. The real kicker is on-device action, thanks to the NPU. “We’re launching several new AI features to help you get things done,” Google’s announcement hints, and two are locked to this Lenovo model.

Smart grouping is one perk, using on-device machine learning to sort open tabs, docs, and apps into neat task-based piles. Picture juggling work research, personal emails, and a slew of browser tabs—smart grouping aims to tame that mess, no internet needed. The other exclusive is AI-driven image editing in the ChromeOS Gallery app. Users can strip backgrounds, whip up stickers, or stretch images with a few taps, all handled locally for speed and privacy.

Google’s move is well-timed. With AI stealing the tech spotlight, the Chromebook Plus 14 casts ChromeOS as a legit player in the AI PC game, taking on Windows Copilot+ and Apple Intelligence. The free AI Pro plan adds a sweet bonus, offering tools rivals charge for. At $649 (or €699 in Europe), it’s a jump for a Chromebook but fair for a laptop with this punch and perks.
