Grand Theft Auto San Andreas NVIDIA RTX Remix Path Tracing Ray
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was first released nearly 19 years ago, and today, with the help of NVIDIA’s RTX Remix, it looks like a completely new game. Simply put, RTX Remix is capable of capturing the textures, geometry, lighting, and cameras using a, custom D3D9 Runtime. This means classic games like GTA: San Andreas can use the D3D9 runtime to send draw calls (rendering instructions) to the GPU.

The D3D9 Runtime, called RTX Remix Runtime, then intercepts those draw calls, interprets them into distinct assets, and reassembles them into an identical scene. RTX Remix converts the assets and scene into the widely adopted Universal Scene Description (USD) open 3D framework, thus resulting in a very modern looking GTA: San Andreas.

Beyond textures, your surfaces need new details, too. To enhance a classic game, a normal map is required, or an entirely new surface with genuine geometric detail that’s been hand-crafted by the modder, both of which take a fair bit of time to make,” said NVIDIA.
