Science, a Japanese bathroom fixture manufacturer, has just debuted its new product, the “Human Washer in the Future.” This contraption makes washing yourself a lot easier; it’s simply a bloated bathtub that can accommodate you in full relaxation mode with a canopy that blocks out the world.
You simply flop back onto its plush contours, the door closes, and a screen appears right in front of you. It depicts some fairly lovely waves moving in, or perhaps a sunset setting, all to the soft sound of waves lapping at the shore and a few distant chimes to establish the tone. The warm soapy water gently fills around you, reaching chest height without you moving a finger. You merely relax for a minute or two, and when the cycle changes, the water drains smoothly while the walls start showering you with fine jets of water to remove the remainder of the suds.

The 2025 Osaka Expo crowd appears to be totally into it – Science just conducted a small poll of people who tried the machine out over the summer, and a staggering 8 out of 10 stated they were absolutely delighted with it, with another 1 in 5 saying they were simply satisfied.

The Human Washer has precision components inside that ensure it doesn’t waste any water and is super comfortable to boot – the whole thing is basically just a really long tub that widens out to fit your shoulders and hips. There are sensors that monitor how much water is in there and the temperature, ensuring that it is always perfectly pleasant – around 38 degrees Celsius for the lengthy, peaceful soak and slightly colder for the rinse. The speakers are tucked away and blast just the proper intensity of background music to help you relax—they used some great nature documentary video for the graphics, looping it over and over again for about five minutes per cycle, just enough to unwind without getting too carried away.
