
When humans start colonizing Mars, they’ll probably live in small pods. Andrea Zittel decided to create the “Wagon Station Encampment” to give us a sneak peak. This camp consists of 12 small pods, a communal kitchen area, outdoor showers, and outhouses, situated in the middle of nowhere to simulate the Red Planet’s solitude. “The pods are each really paired down – just a mattress, two shelves, an area for storing clothes, and a front hatch with a window for looking out at the desert sky. The encampment is made open to the public twice a year and can be reserved for $100 a week after filing a $20 application fee and being approved,” according to Hi Consumption.
