Motorola’s Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) drops in at a price that’s easy enough to fit in your pocket – and in your budget – at $199.99, a $200 discount from its original price of $399.99. That still gets you all the everyday stuff you need to stay connected – calls, emails, photos, and the odd Netflix binge, all handled without so much as a murmur, thanks to a significantly faster 5G connection across a bunch of different bands.
The display is the place to start : a 6.7 inch pOLED screen that overwhelms your senses from edge to edge, thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate which makes scrolling through social media or looking at a map feel silky smooth. You can tell the colors really pop, even in a dimly lit room or that long-haul flight back, and the vegan leather back on the thing feels a whole lot more premium than most phones in this price range. Reviewers all rave about the 50-megapixel camera too – it takes some seriously sharp daytime snaps of landmarks or the meal you just had, and the optical image stabilization keeps even the most drunken of walks steady as a rock. And with a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens to boot, you can now capture a whole lot more group selfies and scenic views than ever before – and before you know it, you’ve got a camera setup that’s punching way above its weight. You get a healthy 256GB of storage, which can be expanded all the way up to a whole terabyte via microSD.

And when you whip out that built-in stylus and start jotting down a note or two – or getting creative with a bit of drawing – the pen snaps to the side with a nice magnetic click when you’re not using it. Next time you’re on a layover, whip it out and jot down any flight changes or sketch out an itinerary in a sticky note or two, and the Moto Note app will happily convert all your scribbles to text on the fly. And don’t even get me started on battery life – plenty to go around when you’re just using the phone for basic stuff like nav app use, the odd audio playback and a few snappy photos.
A 5,000mAh cell provides the juice for whole days of moderate use – if you’re using the phone to power through some long walks, listen to some podcasts and snapping a few photos here and there. Charging is a breeze too – 30 minutes in the box gets you to 50% of full, and the 30W cable brick that comes with it isn’t half bad. And then there’s wireless charging – 15W , which is no small feat at this price point, stuck on a Qi pad with no fiddling with cables necessary.
Durability definitely gets a boost from that IP52 rating – it can handle splashes and dust without batting an eyelid, and throw in Gorilla Glass 3 on the front and you’ve got a phone that can shrug off a few accidental drops with ease. From what we’ve seen, the Moto G has withstood some pretty rough treatment – early testers bounced it around airports and took it to the beach and the phone came out unscathed. Audio from the stereo speakers is pretty solid too – it fills small rooms with podcasts and phone calls just fine. And for long trips, the old-school headphone jack is still there to save the day for those with wired earbuds.

Compared to rivals like the Samsung Galaxy A35 and Nothing Phone (2a), the Moto G comes out on top when it comes to stylus usability and storage space – it even matches them for speed thanks to that snappy Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 engine.
In the accessories department, Moto gives you a nifty little case and screen protector to help keep things from getting damaged while you’re on the go. Plus, the phone has got 5G compatibility ticking all the boxes – that means speedy data wherever you are, whether you’re stuck in a crowded stadium or out in the middle of nowhere. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 mean that all your peripherals stay paired up nice and tight, whether you’re using earbuds or a portable charger.
