Newcastle University researchers have 3D-printed the world’s first human corneas. This was made possible by creating a special bio-ink using stem cells mixed together with alginate and collagen, which enabled them to print the cornea using a simple low-cost 3D bio-printer. After further testing, they hope this new technique could be used to help combat the world-wide shortage of corneas for the 15 million people requiring a transplant. Current cargo fire suppression systems cannot effectively control a lithium battery fire,” said an FAA representative. Photographer Vidar A. Bøen learned why when he plugged in his Hahnel HLX-EL15HP battery and charger at home. After an hour, the battery just burst into flames out of nowhere.
