If you just can’t get enough of the BMW i8, wait until you see the i9 prototype. As you can tell, it looks like a cross between a Star Wars pod racer and the i8. Insiders say that the i9 has been approved for production in 2016, and will sport the same carbon fiber chassis as its predecessor, but with a new, modular 3.0-liter hybrid system. The Active Denial System, also known as ADS, is basically a non-lethal, directed-energy weapon developed by Raytheon for the U.S. military. Its main purposes are area denial, perimeter security and crowd control. Sometimes, it’s referred to as a ray gun since it works by heating the surface of targets, such as the skin of targeted human subjects. Raytheon is currently marketing a reduced-range version of this technology. Continue reading for more cool facts.
You may have seen similar campers, or even a previous version of this model, but the latest Sealander may be the best one yet. It basically combines a boat with the road-worthiness of a camping trailer all into one package. Feel the need to escape to the campsite for the weekend? Simply tow the trailer along behind your car and set it up once you arrive. Thinking of hitting the waves? That’s where things take a different turn. This trailer can move at speeds of 5.5 mph with enough battery power to last for a weekend on the move, weather permitting. Simply pop the camper’s top off, raise the railing into position, bolt on the engine, and you’re ready to relax. Weighing 1,069-pounds unladen, the flat-bottomed vehicle is light enough to ease off into the water from shore or by using a boat launch. Expect to shell out $17,100 for the base model, but the price starts rising if you want lighting / electrical outlets, sleeping quarters, seating areas, an audio system, cooking station, toilet and even a shower. If so, then wonder no more, as Steve Meade Designs shows us in one of his crazy demonstrations. Ars Thanea, a creative production house from Warsaw, Poland, created “The Ash”, a bouquet of roses that was covered in ash and lit by a burning coal fire below. The final result looks like something straight from a science fiction movie. The team said: “So we knew that this time there will be no space for any of 3D tools, we are used to on every day basis. We decided to create everything form a scratch, there would be anything ‘alive’ in this project. Firstly, we used various of materials to built the shape of flowers. Then we painted and fully covered them with the material which looks like a volcanic ash. Then we finished it up with a real burning coal, and to fulfill the gaps between the roses, we decided to use a red light, which gave the feel of a glowing. The second part was to take some photos of burning coal only, using the same perspective – it was easier afterwards, to digitally compose all the layers. As the final result was that we got a big and very detailed picture – which, to be honest, would take a much more time to achieve if we would use our regular 3D tool.” Continue reading for more pictures.
At first glance, this appears to be a real Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, but it’s actually a replica. That’s right, the reason why all the proportions are correct is because rather than use a donor car, everything was built from the ground up, with a tube chassis and fiberglass/carbon fiber body by NAERC. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff gifted San Francisco with three quadskis, and the police were spotted driving them around into the cove during the Giants games this past Saturday and Sunday. Giants announcers Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper were first to spot them, which prompted the camera operators to quickly zoom in. This was not the first time they were shown in public though, as S.F. Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White took a spill at their debut last October. Continue reading for Jeremy Clarkson’s review and more information.
Digital billboards are normally used by companies to promote things, but Brian Kane rented one for more artistic reasons, the “Healing Tool” to be exact. This installation involved rotating between pictures of surrounding natural environments, creating optical illusions that blend in with the environment. The scenes change depending on the time of day, with natural images appearing during the daytime, while space photographs dominate the night. “By removing the marketing message from the advertising space, we create an unexpected moment of introspection. People are allowed to interpret an image based on their own experience, and not necessarily with the singular focus of the advertiser’s intent,” said Kane. Designer Andries van Overbeeke gives us a first look at what the 2017 Red Bull Formula 1 car might look like, powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine that pumps out 1000-horsepower. This is his vision behind the project: “There once was a time when the racing world was ruled by savage beasts. They were captured just before the snowy season, when noble brave men had one winter to tame this creature. After months of championship battle, a handful of the best animals were kept for another winter of training, while the others were set free again. The mixing of the creatures in the wild with their variety of genes gave rise to diversity at all levels. Every hunting season new species were discovered, with unseen traits that were often invincible and sometimes remarkable. We have all heard the myth of the hexapod.” Click here to view the first image in this week’s funny Facebook status updates gallery.
