Samsung has just unveiled the world’s first 2GB MultiMediaCard (MMCmicro). Similar in size to a fingernail (12 x 14 x 1.1 mm), it claims to have the “highest transmission speed of any removable memory card” — around 3.5 times faster then comparable cards. Ideal for use in mobile devices, the MMCmicro can operate at both 1.8V and 3.3V.

According to Dataquest, a semiconductor market research firm, as the global memory card market will grow 5 per cent between 2005 and 2010, the multimedia card market will grow 17 per cent and the MMCmicro market by 95 per cent during the same period.
