Sandbar Stream Ring is the First AI-Enhanced Smart Ring That Listens When You Whisper

Mina Fahmi takes the silver band that is holding his index finger hostage, pushes the flat glass display, and speaks a single line in the nearly silent room: “Buy oat milk, the blue carton.” A faint buzzing against his skin informs him that the message has been saved. Fahmi spent years at Meta translating wrist flicks into cursor moves, and to be honest, it was a wild journey. But he’s moved on from that, as has his co-founder, Kirak Hong. Last week, they both abandoned the headset wars and founded Sandbar with a single, burning goal: to give your voice a true home on your hand. The Stream Ring is the result; it’s a simple piece of equipment with an aluminum casing, a smooth interior, and a teeny-tiny microphone buried beneath a touchpad no bigger than a cent.

Hold the touchpad, speak into it; the mic only springs to life when it recognises your voice. As soon as you let go of the pad, the Stream Ring gives you a sharp little nudge, like the click of a camera. Every so often it will vibrate like that – each time you send a bit of audio & text will start stacking up in the Stream app on your iPhone like a pile of index cards. But maybe a reminder just isn’t enough, right? So just keep going, talking, explaining yourself. The app has a pre-trained assistant who will swoop in and answer at your own pace, asking questions until your half-baked idea looking pretty solid.


Music can also be played on the same surface; simply press the ring once to halt. When you double tap, the next track will start playing. Flick right or left to change the level in tiny increments; it’ll become second nature, much like using a music player on your phone. Spotify, Apple Music, and even the odd podcast app function with the Stream ring, allowing you to stream music without touching your phone. When a command is received, an actuator inside the band gives a tiny kick, letting you know if it heard you above the subway din.


The battery life – yeah it’s a no-brainer: plug it in overnight with that USB-C cable and just forget about it for the rest of the day. Sandbar says it’s okay in a light rain or splash – you can rinse it off and it’s good as new in seconds. The actual ring will ship next summer.

People are gonna raise some eyebrows on the privacy front, and fair enough – it does learn how you talk. Yes it will even read it back to you – but Sandbar just stores the voice model on your phone – and you can delete it with one swipe.
