Seagate Technology introduces their Cheetah-line of 15K.5 drives, which are available in a variety of capacities (300GB max.) and offer a 30% performance increase. Choose between Ultra320 SCSI, 3Gbit/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), and 4Gbit/s Fibre Channel interfaces for maximum compatibility. Seagate has begun shipping the drive to OEM customers. No word yet on pricing.
Its 15000rpm and fast seek times deliver the fastest time-to-data, resulting in 30 per cent more I/Os-per-second and more than 20 per cent faster response times than typical 3.5-inch 10000rpm drives.
