The Slow Mo Guys are back at it again, and this time, they use a high-speed camera to capture molten salt exploding in water at 82,000fps. This reaction occurs because of the extreme temperature difference between the two substances, resulting in the water rapidly vaporizing and creating shock waves.
Once the molten salt touches the water, it changes from a liquid to a vapor almost instantly. The molten salt then sinks deeper into the water, thus causing the pressurized steam to become confined. Eventually, the pressure overcomes the water’s resistance, resulting in an explosion like you see here.

As a firefighter I’ve learned that 1 liter of water turns in to 1700 liters of steam, that’s why you do not wanna extinguish a chimney fire with water, but I’ve never seen it IRL [in real life] in a chimney, so if you could make it happen please do,” said one commenter.
