Styropyro Long-Range Laser Turret
Self-proclaimed mad scientist Drake Anthony, better known as Styropyro on YouTube, built a long-range laser turret capable of burning holes in vehicles. To start things off, he purchased a 2kW fiber laser welder that is typically used to clean metal (strip off rust) and other objects.

Before building the long-range laser turret, Anthony decided to test the laser out by burning rust off a barrel, stripping the paint off pieces of metal, and even obliterate glass. Next, a laser telescope of sorts was built using PVC pipes, enabling the laser to be focused over a distance. Keeping the laser stable was the biggest issue, but a standing desk as well as an office chair was used to fix that.

For me science is life, and I feel there’s no better way of getting in touch with nature than to study its underlying laws and then using them to create things. When it comes to building a new device, I’m certainly an ‘old school’ kind of maker as I’d rather be using a hacksaw and soldering iron than designing 3D parts on a computer,” said Drake Anthony, aka Styropyro on YouTube.
