Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robot just got a new hand upgrade, and now it can catch tennis balls in mid-air. Elon Musk stated that he eventually wants these $20,000 – $30,000 robots to be your own personal R2-D2 and C3-PO, but we’ll need to see a prototype that is closer to production before making that assessment.

Tesla hopes to have pre-production prototypes at use in some of the company’s factories by late next year, with production units shipping to other companies in 2026. With the advancement of ChatGPT, having Optimus converse at a human level most certainly shouldn’t be an issue, as long as it has a stable internet connection.
