When Elon Musk isn’t at SpaceX’s Starbase, he’s probably not thinking about a birthday card he sent ex-girlfriend Jennifer Gwynne. The two dated for around a year back in 1994, when they were both in their early 20s at the University of Pennsylvania, but then the future Tesla CEO headed west for Zip2.
Zip2 was a company that provided maps and business directories to online newspapers. It was eventually acquired by Compaq for $307-million, which lead to Elon co-founding an online financial services company that we now know as PayPal. Well, shortly after moving to Palo Alto, he sent Jennifer a birthday card in December, 1995 and she has kept it in pristine condition ever since. Why is she selling something so personal? To fund her stepson’s college education, as after all, the average tuition at a public 4-year college in South Carolina (where she resides now) costs around $12,500 USD. The RR Auction lot ends on 9/14 with the current high bid at $1,331.
