Sales for Tesla’s solar glass roof have opened, and currently, only two of the four possible tile styles are being made publicly available: the black glass smooth and textured versions. Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but sources claim that the cost of its solar tiles will be around the same as the cost of an ordinary roof, in addition to the cost of electricity. The tiles themselves are transparent to allow sunlight to penetrate the cells from above, but appear opaque when viewed from certain angles. “We expect this to have two or three times the longevity of asphalt.
