Web developer and YouTuber Tom Scott recently got behind the wheel of Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ) Racing’s Mythen, an EV capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in a mere 0.956 seconds. All of Mythen’s components, whether it be the printed circuit boards (PCBs), chassis, or battery, was custom-built by the students themselves.
Mythen’s use of lightweight carbon and aluminum honeycomb means that it weighs in at just 140 kilograms (309 pounds), while self-developed, four-wheel hub motors, along with a special powertrain, generate a combined 326 hp. AMZ Racing’s 0.956 second 0-62 mph acceleration record bests the 1.461 second time set in September 2022 by a team from the University of Stuttgart.

But power isn’t the only thing that matters when it comes to setting an acceleration record – effectively transferring that power to the ground is also key,” said Dario Messerli, head of aerodynamics at AMZ.
