World Morse Code Championship High-Speed Telegraphy
You’ve seen the Microsoft Excel world championships, now here’s an interesting look at the world Morse code championship, also known as high-speed telegraphy (HST). Put simply, amateur radio operators are tasked with accurately receiving, copying, and in some competitions, sending, Morse code transmissions sent at very high speeds.

HST events consist of three main competitive events: a standard event that involves copying or sending of five-character groups of text, and then two that are based on simulations of amateur radio activity, referred to as the Radioamateur Practicing Tests (RPT). The latter includes the copying of amateur radio call signs and a “pileup” competitions, where competitors need to distinguish between call signs sent during several simultaneous transmissions.
