Though it's been done before, Tom's Hardware has created their own nifty oil-cooled PC, enclosed in a clear case and filled with "8 gallons of cooking oil to improve it’s cooling". Video demonstration after the jump.
Indeed, the large volume of liquid guarantees absolutely silent operation - no fans are running. And even under maximum load the three major building blocks remain sufficiently cool: processor, graphics card and chipset.

Ive seen alot of these oil filled PC projects, and they do keep the PC cooler than just air cooling. But they are all 'hey look what I did, isnt it cool!' and then they disappear. You never hear about how the vegitable oil breaks down after a time and goes rancid,. Or that the electrolytic capacitors died after a couple months. I would like to see some long term results before I go submerging my PC in liquid.

fiarly simple.... oil conducts heat but not electricity - therefor as long as the oil isn't in anything like the prossesor which has moving parts etc... it can be filled up. the make the oil cool and it quickly cools everything in it.bet it works the other day too n if if breaks the heat in the summer might heat the oil and melt it. haha

DUMB!

Hum...how about the longterm ?...^^

Am i the only one who would think that working next to an open container of 8 gallons of oil would be gross?

^ Exactly kinda nasty, and a waste of resources why dont you just stay to nice clean air

Air is a horrible conductor of heat. HORRIBLE Liquids/Hydrolics are a VERY good conductor of heat. Grape juice would work great if it didn't conduct. In fact: Water would even work if you got ALL (and kept) the impurities out. "like the prossesor which has moving parts etc" You are joking right ? Did you really just say the processor has moving parts, maybe you mean the hard drive. Please study your PC Anatomy.
