High-Tech LED Rims

Spinner rims are so yesterday. Rims with built-in color LEDs become reality with "PimpStar". These fully programmable wheels can display any image, logo, or text using the included software. Prices range from $12,500 (22" w/tires) - $19,500 (26" w/tires). Video after the jump.
"The included software allows you to create your own images and send them to each wheel individually or all wheels at the same time as you drive! You can even pre-load up to six images into each wheel and program them to change automatically at the time intervals you select."

Saw them at sema. Seem like cop magnets., not sure how legal they are since some states frown on having distracting lights. They work pretty well. Its wireless data to each wheel, and I'm not sure if they need special hubs or each wheel has a battery. Obviously it would be dumb to try and make special hubs for each vehicle so I'm going with battery. Hang on guys I need to change the batteries on my wheels!

One more thing, just watched the video... They REALLY should have used a camera with slowmo since the 29. fps really really doesn't make it look like it does to your eye. To your eye the image is as solid as can be. Useless ya, but pretty cool from a tech standpoint. Hall sensors, wireless, at least a 64pin micro for each wheel, etc

Yea, I saw these at the L.A. Auto Show in january. I agree that they're cop magnets. And how do u transfer the images? Is there a hidden USB port? :p It would be nice to own but for $12,500, forget it.

Well I presume it got a wireless comm, powered by the spin of the wheel itself (so no batteries to change). As for the 'solid image', it's only when the vehicle is running on high speed. it won't even look like any image when you're in a traffic jam :P

the future of these is when they can refresh the image as fast as it can spin(probably up to 90 mph) and and insert a gyroscope to keep the image upright at all times, THEN ill want to buy one

Off the chain; but their to expensive at the present moment. Once every other wheel manufacturer in the United States jumps on board the prices will eventually come down.

It uses an inductive power supply - no batteries and no need for wires. very neat

i like them. they are pretty sweet. the only reson i wouldn't get them is because of the price.
