LCD vs. Plasma

In this news segment, "San Francisco Technology reporter Gabriel Slate looks at the difference between Lcd and Plasma Flat screen tv's." Video after the jump. Which do you prefer?
While it's not a good idea to compare apples and oranges, plasma seems to have the upper hand in terms of absolute quality. Still, the future seems to be turning towards LCD - the market for LCD TVs is poised to explode, and a boisterous crowd of hawkers are all offering LCD TV displays, some of which are good, some not so good, and some just plain shoddy

i thought he said watching sports games is badd for plasma becasue of the score being displayed can cause burn-ins.Then in the the end he says,"Moives and Sports plasma is the best. What the heck is he saying? .....Im waiting for SEDs
2
Better to waiting on Laser TV!!
3
Burn in has been virtually eliminated, it shouldn't be a factor anymore.
4
Burn in on Plasma screens has been eliminated almost completly. The guys at dl.tv said they've tested plasma screens with the image on pause for 12 hours. What was left after 12 hours was a "residual image" if they turned the TV off. If tey turned it back on (or if they just changed channels), the residual image was imediatly removed and the picture was back to normal. I've got a 50" plasma and play games all the time - I've never had the health bar, ect burn in.
5
He said plasma for sports because plasma handles fast motion better than LCD.
6
A nice idea, but he leaves out the fact the plasma bulbs are freaking expensive to replace.
7
There are no bulbs to replace in a plasma display. You are thinking of DLP.
8
great
9
blurring in LCDs? last time i checked there were lcd monitors with ~2ms response times.

Need this I have been wondering for along time what to get over all value for money I would go for LCD but Plasa for Quality, add this to the favouries.

Biggest load of crap I've ever seen. Buy a plasma if you don't mind total failure in less than 5 years. High current device = high power device = high heat device = premature failure. LCDs produce better blacks and colors and I've NEVER seen one fail (except for the inverter circuit (backlight)) in 5 years. But if you're one of those rare people who can detect framerates lower than 24fps... go plasma...besides "Plasma" is just a sexier term than "LCD."

SED tv for me and also as seen on DL.TV the thing whit Plasma and LCD tv its the image procesor that makes a big impact on image qualitie get a cheap LCD than you dont get the best quality of images. well ill wait for the 1st SED tv's/Monitors. ;)

i can tell that this is an old video because burn ins are eliminated and these prices are too high plus the screen size is higher than that you can get realu big lasmas and lcd those are not accurate anymore.

to the person that said refresh time for LCDs its grey to grey, which leads to shit picture quality Plasma for overall quality with a good scource, but with what most people have LCD TVs should suffice. Ie most people have some of the worse scources known to man, but because they stats "Look" good they think they are going to be great

All I'll say is that I love my LCD HDTV (Philips 42PF9730A), and I watch sports on it all the time. I never see any motion blur or screen door effects that people complain about with some other TVs. My only complaint isn't even with the TV, but the crappy NBC HD signal (they can't even get the sound synced right for Sunday Night Football).

This news click stinks. what about LCOs and DLP for larger screens? The only good thing that was said is it's personal preference.

Why don't you blog about _current_ information and actually link to the original article http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/03/09/lcd_or_plasma_/index.html

We'll all be amazed by the quality of the SED image when it comes out next year. Too expensive? Probably.
