Evidentiary machines, used by police forces, generally utilize infrared spectrophotometer technology. Hand-held field testing devices, less accurate but becoming increasingly popular with law enforcement, are based on electrochemical fuel cell analysis

Well no sh*t sherlock, mouthwash contains alcohol. Of course it spiked it......does make it easy to get out of a breathalyzer though, just say you washed out your mouth cause you were going from one girl's house to another and....well you know. That would explain the high readings......so if it is WAY high then they would know why you look buzzed but have the BAC of a binge drunk on the verge of death.

There is no way to beat a breathalyzer. I've heard rumors lately about activated charcoal tablets, but mythbusters didn't seem to test that myth. Maybe because it actually worked and the police don't want people knowing how to get out of DUIs?
