NES Zapper Mouse

For ZeroSign's latest NES mod, he dissected a gyration mouse and wired it to an NES Zapper. See it in action after the jump.
"This is a very easy hack and will give you a fully functional (yet ugly) motion sensing mouse gun fashioned out of the old-school NES Zapper - a must have for any hipster kid from the 80’s."

Cool ? It looks like the "hack" is really just wiring up the trigger switch to the left click switch.... I guess thats a hack... Maybe I'de be more impressed if there was a standalone micro tapping into the mouses' SPI interface... or make it solar powered or somthing I don't know. Props for the idea, but i'de rather have a gyro mouse anyday.

The idea is novel. I mean, it would be almost cool to play duck hunt with like he does. And if he figured out movement, maybe foot pedals or something in FPS's and the gyro mouse being just camera movement, then that could be cool. But yeah, the hack is like it says "very easy". And of course "hack" anymore means anything that does something at all it wasn't originally designed for. If I duct taped a mouse to my phone, it'd be a hack. I'm also completely sick of NES mods. I love the NES, I have 2. I grew up with it. But it's getting overdone. But kudos on the idea. Very novel.

wow, how dumb. A "hack"? So wiring anything to anything else is a "hack" now? I'm an NES fan myself, but I agree with whoandwhy, the NES mod thing is played out now. Kind of like the "I'm Rick James B*tch" thing that school kids are playing out. Still, I give him props for his idea.

one more thing...if you grew up in the 80's, you're not a kid anymore..I should know..I'm an 80's kid myself but I'm in my mid 20's. "Hipster kid"? WTF?

Hm, I'd like to look into this. Wonder how well it handles Unreal Tournament or Counter Strike. Interesting idea, though. As Joe said, it seems very Revolution-esque, but I like how he pays homage to the NES. I was lucky enough to be born right around the time the SNES was really kicking in, so I have lots of fond memories of Duck Hunt and the like (Even though it was considered retro by then, oh well). Let's just hope Nintendo doesn't screw up the Revolution, this type of thing should really open up some new doors for them. Especially (although it probably won't go this way for their first-party games) First-person shooters.
