(Video) Escher's Waterfall

Shigeo Fukuda has masterfully recreated Escher's Waterfall -- where water seems to flow uphill -- in a small scale model. Video clip after the jump.
Everything seems to be in place, yet we seem to be in a strange universe where water flows uphill. What is wrong with it? Well, nothing is wrong with it. It is just our minds trying to equate the lines Escher drew with what our senses perceive of the real world.

I was all set to love this. Back 15 years ago in my Amiga days I tried animating the water, with poor results. But when I went to the link all I got was a static jpg. Checked the page source, and that was all. I do have Flash, Java, javascript, Quicktime, WM and Real all set up on Firefox 1.5.02 Maybe too many server hits and they took the video off?

Well DUH, now I see it, right here on this page. I hadn't scrolled down far enough to see the vid window so I just went to the top link. Is it just me or does "Video clip after the jump." imply a jump to the link? Pretty great, though.

I am absolutely amazed, dazzled, baffled, astonished, startled and even more interestingly cried. WOWOW! I like caponese so much, especially when i see this much cretivity. HOWOWOW! I think they never deserved the A-bombs. Or maybe they didn't deserve two, they deserved just one. BRAVO caponese technology and creativity. I will buy a Honda car when i have money (or toyota). HEWOEW!

Thats so cool! Its cheating how they made seperate parts though, the picture implies just one stream (still pretty amazing though).

Damn. Nice work.

Wow. Great job. I wanna know the truth. :)

The orginal was much better. One's eye tended to follow the water path, oh it flows over here, and then you get to where you were and your mind goes $#!@$#%#$#!!! This one lacks that. It's a fun project, and a tribute to the original, but without the Escher image at the same time, not worth passing on.
