Remember the 3D-printed Lamborghini Aventador that physicist Sterling Backus started with his son back in 2018? Well, it’s nearly finished and looks just about ready for the final paint job. The Fast Lane Car recently got an up-close look at the vehicle and showcases many of the authentic Lamborghini parts that this replica uses.
This Lamborghini Aventador SV replica had to be built from the ground up, without an existing frame or engine, just a small CR-10S 3D printer. In the beginning, the printer had to be used non-stop for around 15-months since it was designed for much smaller projects. This meant that each body piece had to be individually printed and then hand assembled onto the custom steel frame. Halfway through the project, Lamborghini contacted Backus and offered to donate some authentic Aventador parts including the headlights as well as the steering wheel. Power comes from a 5.7L V8 engine sourced from a 2005 Corvette C5 that makes 339 hp and 356 lb-ft of torque.
