3D Printer TOPS Quadruped Robot Dog
Engineer Aaed Musa used a 3D printer, along with a host of electronic parts, to create TOPS (Traverser of Planar Surfaces), a 12DOF quadruped robot dog. Weighing in at 29.6 pounds, it took approximately 4-months and $3,300 USD to build.

Aside from taking three weeks alone to print, the next challenge was getting the software right. Why? Coordinating all of its legs to make walking happen is quite challenging to say the least. Fortunately, Musa already know what needs to be upgraded for TOPS V2, and since the feet have already been cast with a silicone outer lay for better traction, that can be marked off the to do list.

3D Printer TOPS Quadruped Robot Dog

While I have attempted a couple of robot dogs in the past, nothing has come close to having the natural gait of an actual dog. In this project, the goal is to make a more dynamic quadrupedal robot,” said Musa.
