NVIDIA ACE Generative AI Virtual Game Characters
The NVIDIA ACE (Avatar Cloud Engine) for Games was revealed today at COMPUTEX 2023, and it’s essentially a custom AI model foundry service designed to transform games by bringing intelligence to non-playable characters (NPCs) using AI-powered natural language interactions. Developers can use ACE to deploy customized speech, conversation, and animation AI models in both games as well as software.

One of the first demos to utilize ACE is called Kairos, and players can interact with Jin, the owner of a ramen shop. Despite being an NPC, Jin replies to natural language queries realistically and consistent with the narrative backstory, thanks to generative AI. This demo was rendered in Unreal Engine 5 using the latest ray-tracing features and NVIDIA DLSS.

Generative AI has the potential to revolutionize the interactivity players can have with game characters and dramatically increase immersion in games. Building on our expertise in AI and decades of experience working with game developers, NVIDIA is spearheading the use of generative AI in games,” said John Spitzer, VP of Developer and Performance Technology at NVIDIA.
