James Bruton 3D-Printed Alien Tripod Robot
Inventor James Bruton wanted to find out if the alien tripod robots from the H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds can actually walk. So, he decided to build one from scratch, starting with the legs, which are positioned 120-degrees apart from each other in a standard tripod arrangement.

When the robot intends to walk, two of its legs pivot, thus moving the third leg when they lift. If this process is repeated, the robot should walk. To see if this was the case, Bruton 3D-printed a body and the legs, each with three servo motor-actuated joints, connected to an Arduino Mega 2560 board. The end result was a robot with legs that just dragged, literally, but with an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), Bruton believes that its weigh can be shifted more precisely to each leg.
